Project Description

Laurie Swabey, PhD, was awarded $1.9 million from the Department of Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration. Based on the collective experience of collaborating partners, the BHIP is suited to more than double the size of the workforce trained and certified in behavioral health interpreting as evidenced by training webinars, online modules, live stream events, practicum sites, establishment of a community of practice for on-going professional development. The outcomes have the potential to increase the number of credentialed QMHIs in the U.S. by at least 100%, as well as trained interpreters and those interested in pursuing training. This will substantially improve deaf people’s access to qualified interpreters for behavioral health services and deaf consumers needing mental health services.
