Project Description

Kathleen Spehar, Director of the O'Shaughnessy, received a $3000 grant from Arts Midwest to bring the international artist and Grammy-nominated Chinese virtuoso Wu Man to St. Paul. She and the world-renowned Shanghai Quartet will present a public concert, a student-centered workshop a public masterclass and possibly a school matinee. Outcomes for the performance result in robust attendance of at least 75% capacity for all residency and performance events, with workshops for 45 participants, masterclasses for 60, and performances. Global SHEroes, a new element within The O’Shaughnessy’s annual Women of Substance program, will showcase the voices of prominent global female artists to its stage. Collaboratively curated by committee comprised of Twin Cities artists and leaders-of-color, the series may include singers, choreographers, dancers, and theatre artists, in concert and residency opportunities. In its inaugural (2015-2016), SHEroes will bring two international women artists to the O’Shaughessy, women known for their artistry and for their work in advancing the health and well-being of women and children the world.
