Project Description

Kathleen Spehar, Director of the O'Shaughnessy, received a $2000 grant from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music. In April 2016, The O’Shaughnessy, in partnership with Walker Art Center, will present the 50th Anniversary Concert by one of America’s most distinguished artists: instrumental/vocal innovator Meredith Monk. Ms. Monk creates new opera, music-theater, films and installations. A pioneer in extended vocal technique and interdisciplinary performance, Monk’s groundbreaking exploration of the voice has expanded the boundaries of musical composition. Monk’s work has been presented by BAM, Lincoln Center Festival, Houston Grand Opera, London’s Barbican Centre, and at major venues from Brazil to Syria. In addition to her many awards (including a MacArthur “Genius” Award), Monk holds four honorary doctorates.
