Project Description

Lynne Gildensoph, Professor of Biology, and Alejandra Gonzalez, student researcher, received a $1,918 award from the 3M Small Scale Grant program to provide growers of sunflowers (an important crop for flower production and for agricultural purposes) with clarifying information about the photoperiodic control of flowering in two varieties (Teddy Bear and Elf). They will grow two replicates of the two varieties at two different photoperiods and will measure leaf color and number, plant height, stem diameter, the number of flower buds and their date of appearance, as well as the number of flowers and when they appear.
