This paper aims to explore and critically analyze the various factors that influence the self-management of type 2 diabetes in the Nepali American population in the United States (U.S.). The topic is important because the prevalence of diabetes in the South Asian population is increasing. South Asians in the U.S. are at a higher risk for developing the condition than Whites, or any other ethnicities. Some of the key strengths, weaknesses, threats, and challenges faced by this specific population will be highlighted. Recommendations for nurses and allied health professionals on how to provide culturally competent and quality care to Nepali Americans in managing their diabetic condition will be outlined.
