Abstract for Science and St.Kates
The poster we will be bringing to Science at St.Kate's will be on the historical overview of ultrasound. We go through the years of ultrasound starting in the 1700s and will work our way up to current times. It is amazing that ultrasound started with the idea of how bats travel by sound not sight, and now it has worked it’s way to diagnostic ultrasound, which we use in the medical field. Ultrasound is defined as sound waves that are at a frequency of 20,000 Hz or higher. However, our poster goes into the idea of diagnostic ultrasound/imaging. Diagnostic ultrasound is defined as using ultrasound to get images of certain parts of the body for medical reasons. Diagnostic ultrasound has only been performed for a little over 60 years but the advances in the small amount of time are tremendous. Our poster will display images showing how far diagnostic ultrasound has came during this time also.
