Project Description
Director Kathleen Spehar and Deputy Director Ross Willits were award $15,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Art Works grant to support concerts and outreach activities by Anoushka Shankar as part of the Women of Substance performance series at the O'Shaugnessy Auditorium. Sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar will participate in a mini-residency focusing on the artist's various social justice activities, including speaking out against human trafficking. Shankar's residency will be conducted in partnership with several St. Catherine University departments, faculty, students, and community partner organizations. The O’Shaughnessy presents events each year. Over the past three seasons, it has significantly increased the quality, scope and accessibility of its programming. Focused on its signature Women of Substance series, the venue has invited a wide array of women artists to the stage. From programs celebrating the achievements of individual artists and ensembles who have landmark careers, to premieres of new work by emerging artists, the series has stretched its inclusivity and creative palette with dynamic results.
