Project Description

Lisa Kiesel, PhD, Assistant Professor of Social Work, received a $3,450.00 award for her project: Professional social workers with disabilities: Employment opportunities and challenges. Within social work employment and social work education it is important to examine how social work demonstrates employability and accommodation for social workers with disabilities. The purpose of this study is to explore this from the perspective of professional social workers with disabilities following successful completion of their social work degree. As social work educators we have experiences and knowledge of schools of social work responding to students with disabilities as well as know anecdotally of challenges students have faced transitioning from classroom to field and degree to employment. Our overall research question is "what are social workers with disabilities perspectives on seeking, obtaining and maintaining social work employment?"
