Project Description

Kathleen Kalb, Associate Professor of Nursing, received a $7,500 Faculty Research & Scholarly Activities Grant to revisit the use of the NESE as a research instrument. By consulting with an expert in statistics and psychometrics, existing student data will be analyzed and the scale used for student self-assessment of knowledge and skills related to each of the 66 task statements included in the Core Competencies (NLN, 2005) will be evaluated to determine whether the current Likert scales and anchors used in the NESE are adequate and how the method of administration could be changed to facilitate more robust statistical analysis.
