Abstract

The call center industry is one of the most rapidly growing areas of work globally. Thus, with the advancement of technology many major businesses left their native countries and presumed cheap labor in parts of India, South Africa, Brazil, and other parts of the world. Currently working in a Call Center, it is an interest of mine to take a multidimensional approach and collaborate with a faculty member to dissect the influences of globalization and the transformation of labor work. Further, common issues that arise include worker control, lack of autonomy, and wage inequality. The studies I have researched illuminate the need to rethink some of the principles that drives work organization in the call center industry and offer solutions to protecting workers rights.
